Is it natural for fathers and sons to bicker and fight all the time?

My son is 10 and I swear my husband acts 10 at times. My husband and I have only been married for 4 years (he's not the biological father), he's in the military so he's been gone for long periods of time the whole time we've been together. This last year and half has been the most time we've spent together as a family, and having a somewhat normal routine has been nice. But there are times when I just want to throw my hands in the air and yell "I'm Switzerland!" The bickering and the fighting and the pulling me into the middle gets to be so frustrating at times. I'm just wondering if I'm making to big a deal about the bickering. Is that just something that all father's and son's do?

You should actually do the throwing-the-hands-in-the-air and yelling "I'm Switzerland!" thing!!! I think that would get their attention... and be kind of funny at the same time. It would also make it clear that you are NOT going to continue to be pulled into the middle of their spats... they have to resolve it on their own! It might also be a slight hint to your husband that he's not at war, he's at home.

Thats how it is with my daughter and husband, their always bickering, my daughter is 11 years old, and he's not her biological father. (we've been together for 10 years) I offend wonder if it's because she's not truly his daughter, I know he loves her, but it seems like he comes down on her more than our 9 year old son. Also, she calls him dad(her biological father was never really in the picture) I'm sorry I have no advice, but I wanted you to know our not alone. I'm hopeing as our daughter grows up it will get better, but who knows with the teen years just ahead!
