As long as you child has one every week or 7-9 days they are okay! It can and will be painful when they go longer with out but it is with in normal range per my pediatrician. As long as your baby is having wet diapers 6-10 a day they are healthy. If baby seems to uncomfortable contact your doctor immediately!

For a breastfed baby it's totally normal. Someone explained it to me this way once and it makes complete sense...Breast milk is the perfect food so a baby's body can use up pretty much all of what it consumes. Not to mention, breast milk is made up mainly of water. So as long as your baby is still having plenty of wet diapers, you don't have anything to worry about. Most doctors won't intervene when it comes to an EBF baby not pooping unless it has been more than 10-14 days! I wouldn't recommend prune juice (or any other kind of juice for that matter). Not at this point anyways. Something you can try if you feel that your baby is in discomfort is tummy massage. Lay your little one on her back and massage her belly above the navel in a rainbow motion from (your) left to right. You can also try a warm bath an put gentle pressure/massage around the anus.

if a baby is breast fed it is normal to go days with out having a bowel movment - bottle fed babies i think should go at least once aday - maybe once every 2 days as long as its regular. if baby is in pain when pooing then maybe try somthing to help with that such as prune juice or talk to you doctor to see what else you can try. but a breast fed baby never gets consipated.

how old is your baby ?

Breastfed babies often have a bowel movement after every feeding for the first few weeks. If your baby is breastfeeding, he may go after every feeding or he may go several times a day

Formula-fed babies do not have as many bowel movements, generally, as breastfed babies but you can expect four or five poops a day in the first few weeks.

Once your baby is about one month old, he may start having fewer bowel movements
