I breast fed my daughter (now 4) until she was 12 months, at which time I started to introduce milk in a sippy cup...but she hated the taste of milk! lol! So under her pediatrician's advisement, I mixed a small amount of pediasure with whole milk which she had during the day, nursing at bedtime. By the time she was used to drinking it, after slowly decreasing the amount of pediasure mixed in, she was off the breast and drinking whole milk by about 12 1/2 months. For us it was a perfect time to stop breastfeeding (I was mentally getting ready and she stopped herself) and we never had to worry about formula or bottles.

Hey Tarsha, I have no idea what formula means, but I tried the normal milk as soon as ours could drink from a cup, about nine months to a year (we have 3 kids). They didn't react to it as in allergic reactions, and they loved it, so we kept going on. Now they are bigger and love chocolatemilk :D

I started giving my kids full cream cows milk in a cup from 12months but i know of a few mums who introduced it a few months earlier and their children are all very healthy.

You can give cows milk from 12 months, just make sure you add extra dark green vegeatbles or red meat to his diet as formula milk contains double the amount of iron as cow milk. My daughter hates cows milk and refuses to drink it, so at 19 months she is still on toddler milk.

Most docs say they can have normal milk from 1 year. Lots of people introduce it a few months earlier especially when it is only one cup a day or just in their breakfast or something like that. I'm sure it will be fine.

If I were you I would give him water as well. Just let him sip from a cup of water a few times a day. One day you will stop breastfeeding and you want him to already be used to drinking water as it will be his main source of fluid.

Hey i started giving my now 15month old son full fat milk a week before his first birthday, i just slowly introduced it so his body didn't get a shock, try switching one of his formula milks with a normal milk and see how he takes it, if he's happy then do the same the next day then the day after up it to 2 a day :) and then same the next day than up until he no longer has any formula milk. If he doesn't take to it perhaps try toddler milk instead and try again with normal milk a week later.

Hope this helps!
