My 5 yr old son recently decided that he needs privacy from ALL women, including me! I understand his need, but since my husband can't always be here to do it I was wondering if he's old enough to do it himself. If I run the water and leave the door open, is it safe to let him take a bath without supervision? I would be less than 10ft away, so i could listen for him. My husband can help with his a couple of nights a week, so my son would just be washing his body. I think he's old enough, I've just always been told not to leave kids in the bath alone. Please help!

LOL. I just recently posted almost the same question!!! My daughter going to be four in a couple of months and asked me to leave the bathroom while she is on the potty or in the tub. I have a 2 year old son as well. I bathe my kids together (to save time mostly) and after I get my son clean he and I leave the room (and go across the hall) to get my son dressed. I talk to her from the other room and let her play. Once my son is dressed, I go back into the bathroom and make sure she is getting clean (and help her where needed) She has been doing really well. I'm sure your 5 yr old will too. :-)))

Thanks so much! I feel alot more confident about letting him be a big boy now.

He should be just fine, just make sure you casn hear him, and check on him every 10 minutes or so. I know many moms who leave their 3 year old alone in the tub, they are all fine.

As long as the door is open and you can hear him. I use the bathroom off the kitchen to give my kids a bath and that way I can wash dishes or whatever but still hear them and am within a couple of feet of them.

He should be fine. I leave my 3 1/2 year-old son to bath alone...We have a non-slip mat & he knows to not stand up. I'm only ever a few metres away & I go in to check on him every few minutes & call out to ask if he's okay frequently.
