Kids don't know when they are really tired most of the time and if you let them stay up just because they say they arn't tired then you will regret it the next day! It is just another way for kids to try to run the household. Don't take no for an answer. Try give them a choice if they are being really obnoxious about it. Say "I can take you to bed now and read you a story or you can go to bed by yourself and read for 5 min then i will come turn out the light." Choices usually work good with kids. All the best.

If my son is not tired and I can tell that he really is not, I let him stay up for 15 min. Then back to bed, that usually does it. If he is still not tired he can take a sticker book to bed and he is usually sleep very soon.

Mine go to bed at 8 but get to read till 8:30 they are older now tho so I think it depends on the age but when they was younger I put them in bed at 7:30 and read to them normally they were gone before the story was over. Good luck and stick to your guns.

My kids go to bed a 8 o'clock SHARP every night (of course we have the occasional movie night or special occasion in which they may stay up til 8:30 or so). If you are consistent, you will find that your kids will tell you they are tired at bedtime regardless of what else is going on. My kids, at times, will tell me they are ready for bed even slightly before bedtime. Good luck.

If your sentence is going to finish with "they say they are not tired" then no. Kids need to learn that bed time is bed time no matter what. Plus if they were to just lay in bed I'm sure they would grow bored and tired enough to fall asleep.
