Is there a way to get gum off of clothing?

One of my son's shirt's has a thin layer of chewing gum residue on it, and I've tried everything I know of to get it off....Ice works ok, but it is time consuming to pick each little speck of gum off...Does anyone know of anything faster? I cringe at the thought of turning it into a play shirt or throwing it out because it's really nice and he's just grown into it recently. Thanks in advance for any ideas/advice!

Put the shirt in the freezer over night and then it should come off quicker than picking each bit off. Just give it a good wringe out and the bits should flake away.

I agree with Louise - freeze it and it should crack off - another thing that is good to get gum off clothing (or hair) is peanut butter - work it into the gum and it should rub (or comb) right out.
