The biggest thing you have to tackle, is your current diet. Always read labels...cut out HFCS, Corn Syrup, artificial colors and flavors and anything with the word "hydrogenated'; that = trans fats. Bad. Very bad. Start cutting out all the processed white flour and incorporate more whole grains into your diet. We are supposed to consum approx. 25g of fiber a day. The more fiber you consume the easier it is for your body to metabolize sugar and to burn it instead of storing it. Simply eat more fruits and veggies! Some other things to incoporate into your diet is Wheat Germ (high in protein, fiber and 23 minerals) Quinoa (another great source of protein and vitamins) and Lentils (another good source of protein). Try to stay away from anything processed, lots of sweets and soft drinks and of course drink plenty of fluids! Here is a great book to check out: http://www.amazon.com/This-That-Supermar...

This book opened my eyes to the way I look at food and has helped me loose 20 lbs to date just by changing my diet! Work in the excercise when you are able to but the thing that's going to stick with you the longest is your daily diet. Good luck!

Hi! I'm in the same sort of predicament... except I have about 50 lbs to lose before I'm in the healthy zone. I just started doing a gluten free diet (for Lent), and it has seriously sped my weight loss. It started with a New Year's resolution to cut out junk food, and then when Ash Wednesday rolled around I made a promise to my God to "mimic" Jesus' struggle with temptation with one of my own: Cut out gluten-- so anything with wheat or any wheat byproducts. That means pasta, bread, even most cream soups, pancakes, stuff like that, and I stopped drinking sodas. From January first to today, March 7th, I have lost 13 lbs. :-D It's been a pain in the ass, but it will be so worth it. It means changing your lifestyle, getting to know what's in your food, and eating consciously. Sometimes it's hard because my kids' favorite meals always consist of some kind of pasta, and I've noticed the natural reflex to scarf down the last spoonful or two while I'm putting up leftovers. Resisting that urge has been a huge triumph, and I think a big part of the weight loss. Paying attention to what I have been feeding my body has been enlightening, too. It's so easy just to go with the little voices in your head that say there's no hope, or a little more won't hurt, but ever since my Pastor equated those voices (ever-present no matter what you are going through, not just food) with Satan tempting Jesus to turn a rock into a loaf of bread during his 40 day Lenten struggles, it's been so much easier to go cold turkey!
I'm excited to have seen these results without really increasing my exercise regimen, if you could call it that. It's so hard to find kid-friendly workouts and the time to do it. I walk my dog around our half-mile block two to three times a day and squeeze in some treadmill time when I go to my mother-in-law's once a week or so, but that's about it. Keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps working, and I hope this helps you in your quest for your old body! :-)
Good luck!

You just have to set your mind strait that you are going to do this thing and that you are going to stick with it no matter what. Start with your diet and work your way outward; have your diet consist of things you will eat even after you are done losing weight. It's a life style change and if you want to keep it off it's a life long thing. Then throw in the exercise. You may not be able to do it every day, but if you are calorie counting you still have a good base. After I had my 3rd baby I weighed 220lbs. I felt so big, slow, tired ect ect ect. I have worked hard over the past year and now I am down to 141lbs. It is a huge difference. Think if you lost the weight you want to lose how you would feel. I love bouncing around with my kids now because it is fun and I feel a lot happier on top of that. Hang in there I hope you are able to meet your goal. If you ever need a cheer leader I will be around. Good luck.
