my son, almost 3, has been potty trained during the day (in a way) for months now. the thing is he must be naked. if i put undies on him he seems to not understand that they aren't diapers... and i've explained it in every way possible. if he is naked he will go to the bathroom on his own every time without a problem. needless to say when i go out he still needs a diaper. any advice?

With my first daughter who had that same problem thinking it was "safe" to go if undies were on we spent long periods of time outside with just undies on. After several p and poo she got the connection that it's going to go all over me if I just go and she stopped. My second daughter what did it was the cool alert pull ups that get cold when you "go". She HATED when it turned cold and stopped going in them. I would think that boys would hate the cold even more than girls:)

I started potty training my 2yr old a couple months ago by buying him some spiderman & cars underwear, made him sit on the toilet every half hour, I also gave him treats, and even made up a pee pee dance (he loved that the most cuz it made him feel like a big boy). I've tried everything but honestly it just takes time, encouragement, and washing loads of underwear. lol Now he has hardly any accidents at all, starting to pee standing up, and tells me where ever we are "I have to go pee!" lol

he has a Cars seat cover, that's what got him on the potty in the first place. well that and suckers (they dont get candy, and since he got one my daughter who is a year older had to get one so it would be fair - but that helped because she wanted a sucker and encouraged him. :D ). he has def been harder than my daughter. lol.

no, i havent. but i could use the same principle with a diaper. with my daughter, she was 2 and a week, it was simple, buy her panties... give her tons of liquids... run her to the potty... a week later she was trained and has stayed dry day and night since. he understands the potty but it's like he doesnt understand the underwear. maybe i messed up somewhere with him. idk.

have tried trainin pants on him??? they have little pics on them that disappear when he wets...you could make a game out of if he keeps it dry all day long he gets to go to the park or get a toy next time he goes to the store...or try potty treats get his fav. candy, cookie or whatever you prefer and everytime he potties in the potty he gets that treat..

i dont mind him naked at home. whatever works, but i want to be able to stop buying diapers. i dont mind the occasional night accident, i can get up and change those without a care, for some reason going through 8+ pair of undies a day drives me crazy.

Hi Yvonne

try buyin big boy undies with his fav. cartoon character on them (if you havent already)and tell them that the character wants him to potty in the potty and if he potties on them it will make them cry....(this worked for my daughter who loves dora) make a big deal about it when you buy the undies take him with you and let him pick the ones he wants out...

as far as the walkin around naked part i cant help cause i didnt have this issue as of yet...have a 6 month old comin up so we will see what she we be like LOL
