Lactose intolerant or mild case of rotavirus?

[deleted account] ( 5 moms have responded )

How can I tell if my baby is lactose intolerant or has a mild case of rotavirus? He arches his back, yells at me (half cry, half "argh"), spits up a ton and has a two week old case of diahhrea. Has anyone else had these symptoms in their babies? What did you do (besides going to the doc)?

Thanks everyone for your responses. All of your advice is very helpful! I'm going to try him on a sensitive formula and see if that does the trick. I'm just not convinced it's rotavirus, but he has a doc appt anyway. Thank you!

With lactose intolerance their poo is the consistency of water and frothy (and usually yellow).

Also Yes try a different formula n keep a dairy of what u eat if u r breastfeeding. If u r nt breastfeeding keep track of what baby eats. pediasure would be good to use since the baby had diarrhea n spits up. so they baby will still get the nutrients

My son had rota virus. He is 3 now. The first yr of his life he had diarrhea bad, The smell would make you .vomit. I took him to the dr for it. they didnt know what was causing it. We thought he had a gluten problem so we stopped all wheat, rye, oats in his diet. Bought gluten free food. Which did help. Then shortly after the age of 2 we tried wheat w him again n the diarrhea was gone. They now have a vaccine for the rota virus they give they give the baby at 3 6 and 9 months. It was a liquid med that was giving oral. Let me know if this was helpful.

well I did go to the dr he told me to start by elimination. if you are breastfeeding then keep a journal of what you are eating and the babies reaction and then try not ot eat or drink it if you saw an adverse reaction. If you notice that your baby does better when you don't eat dairy then maybe a lactose issue. My lil girl was on formula when we endured these symptoms and we ended up changing the type of fomula she was on and it did the trick. Might just be something simple hang in there!
