Do you mommies out there wear make up and get dressed up to stay at home with your little ones? I sometimes feel like a "bum"

My goal is to take a shower, get dressed, put my hair back, and put on some mascara before noon! :) I rarely/never wear anything on my face other than moisturizer and mascara. It's fast, but I feel like I did *something*.

I have 3 children under the age of 4, and I have fallen in love with the advice from flylady.net. So, I take a shower and get dressed all the way to my athletic shoes EVERY morning by 9:00 whether we are going some place or not (my kids are also all dressed & fed by 9 am too). The beds are all made too. It makes me feel like I am "finally loving myself"... and I find that I love being a stay-at-home mom much more when me and my house are put together. It's a better environment for me to thrive in and a better environment for my kids too.

I have but dressed up for me is a pair of jeans with a nice shirt. Usually I would on Friday or saturday but it was more in hope that DH would get off work and decide to go out to eat or something. It never works and often he comes home wanting to go out when I'm in my jammies.

I get done up every day - it makes me feel better about myself and I like to look good for my man when he comes home from work. But I will admit it doesn't always happen right away - sometimes not until lunch time hehe!

I KNOW that feeling all too well! I even go to the store in my grungies! I figured, what's the point of wasting make up and nice clothes just to sit around and stare at my kid all day. It'd be different if I were actually able to get with friends, other moms, etc. and go do things with our kids. But I'm a newbie in town and I'm having a hard time meeting new people. So I stay a bum, at home!

It really is tuff to make time for yourself when you have smaller children who need so much attention. I feel that it is important for mommy's to also take care of themselves, because it makes you feel good about yourself, and if you feel good about yourself you radiate that positive enegry, whether someone else see's you or if you just catch a glimpse in a mirrow while your running after your child. Sometimes in order to take care of yourself you have to give up that extra half hour of sleep in the morning, but in the long run you'll feel it was totally worth it. Dont get me wrong I dont get dressed up and put on make up everyday, but I try to do it more often then not.

well for me I just started wearing make up, was never a make up person. When I was younger I tried it but it was too much for me b/c I was a tomboy. I do take a shower and get dressed just in case someone drops by or i have to go out.

Rarely. I will put on some mascara before I leave the house even if it's just for a walk around the block but when I do, it makes me feel better. More like a human. But when I'm home, as long as I'm clean and comfy and I keep the kids the same way, I call it a win.

I only wear makeup if I'm going out and usually only a little bit. (enough to cover up dark circles and give me a bit of color-- I'm very pale). If I'm getting dressed up and going somewhere nice, I'll go for a more dramatic look.

As an aside, I find it really sad that in this day and age women still feel compelled to put on makeup in order to be acceptably attractive to their husbands. As a feminist that makes my stomach churn. If you want to feel pretty for you, great. But don't do it cos you just gotta please your man.

I do I have to say I don't go all out with my eyeshadow and stuff but try to do the minimum mascara eyebrows and eyeliner quickly. I do it for me. Staying at home all day sometimes I feel like sudden depression walking by the mirror and looking like crap so it takes a few minutes to myself lifts my spirits i don't feel like a bum as much and a happier mama makes for happier little boys lol

Only if I'm going somewhere that day. I'll shower and dress (clean sweats/ lounge clothes if I'm not going anywhere) but the makeup is optional.

No. I never wear make up and dont even own any. The last time I wore makeup was at my wedding four years ago. and then you couldnt tell I had it on. My husband thinks I am beautiful all the time so no need to wear it. I dont even know the first thing about it. Never wore it much before getting married either. I also save a lot of money by not buying it. Not that I could afford it if I wanted too. You can look good other ways rather than wearing make up.

I put on makeup just about every day, it really helps my self esteem since i havent gotten back to pre pregnancy weight. I also get dressed up from the waist up and still keep pj pants on that way i can clean and move about without any fuss but when i look in the mirror, it makes me smile :D personally i was a lot more depressed before i started doing this

I think its really you're personal preference. Maybe the mood you're in that day should depict if you 'doll up' or not. Personally, i don't dress up every day, but i threw out all but 2 pair of baggies so i wouldnt be tempted to be lazy ALL week. Nice jeans and a button up top or nice pullover shirt usually gets me out of the sluoch around all day mood. Not to mention those surprise visitors- eecchh! And it starts your little one to seeing a routine of getting up and getting dressed first thing in the morning. My hair usually gos up in a clip or ponytail on warmer days or down with a 'bangs clip' on cooler ones. If i wear make-up, its usually quick. Light foundation powder, lip gloss, mascara and finger-cream shadow. I'm no beauty queen, but i feel like i look good enough to smile and hold my head up.

I think its really important to still get up and dressed and put on make up and do your hair. When i first had my daughter I used to get dressed up nice and dress her up[ and take pictures together. Its a way to spend quality time with her, have beautiful pictures to share, and still feel beautiful

I don't wear make-up at home but I very rarely do just get this urge to put it on once in a great while (while I'm at home). Just to "putz" with it. Sometimes I have an off day and just doing that will help. Everyday I do shower but I just throw my hair up and put comfy clothes on. Going out is a different story though. I just never want to be one of those mommies who "let's herself go" because she has kids. Yes, it does make me feel much better to look nice. My husband may make fun of me to take an hour and a half to 2 to get ready but I don't care it's well worth it just to feel the way I do when I do my hair and put on make-up. It also keeps encouraging me to lose my last 10 lbs of baby weight=)

it is very difficult to be able to make yourself look your best when your a new mommy or even if you have a newborn. but i do know what you goin through..i guess for me it all depends on what kind of day im having...i always shower everyday but the makeup is a diff story....sometimes i will put on my makeup and do my hair if i kno i am goin out somewhere or even if i am in a good mood...but if i dont feel good or if i kno i am staying home and cleaning, etc then i just wear my pjs all day. i dont think its bad to just feel like a bum. but sometimes its nice to just look your best even if your staying home. :)

In short; not always

When your kids are younger - it's tough to get showered, dressed, etc. However, I will say that when my son was younger, I always felt like I handled things better when I took a little time to get dressed (clean sweats, jeans, etc.), put some makeup on and fix my hair. I was a single mom when my son was younger - so I used to take a bath at night after he went to sleep (I took a bath because I knew I'd hear him better if he awakened). A piece of advice... get a high chair for the bathroom. I used to put him in his high chair in the bathroom and hand him some toys... then do my hair, wash my face and put a little makeup on. It always made me feel so much better!

I know the feeling! Wearing t-shirts and sweats everyday gets old! I get dressed when we're going to go somewhere, but most days I don't bother.

[deleted account]

My daughter has just turnt 2 and ive only now just started to wear make up again and take time doing my hair, still dont have enough time but its good enough to do a quick job lol. I think after a while it dont really bother you much not putting in the effort but when you do have the time its nice to dress up

Never really wore makeup. So, it's no different for me after I had Lyn. I'm a low-maintenance type of girl, so it worked out for me. If I'm going out with my husband or going to work, then I might put on a little bit eyeshadow and liner, maybe lipgloss, fix my hair, and some perfume. But if I'm going to the grocery store, I don't bother with it. Just a ponytail and go!

I would like to have the time to put make up on everyday, but it just doesn't happen. I'm usually in sweats and a tee shirt, and my hair pulled up in a bun. I'm doing good if I can find time to take a shower. My 2 year old doesn't nap much any more, so my days are pretty full between her and my 10 month old.

I've kind of made it a personal rule that I only wear makeup on special occasions. I used to wear it every day no matter what, and I hated the feeling of being unattractive or sloppy without it, I mean, we're great the way we were made, right? I shower every day, that's good enough for me. And when I do get dressed up I feel really pretty and special. It's helped me be happier to be me, I think.

[deleted account]

I sometimes do, but not always. If I'm going to see other people during the day, I'll make sure I look nice. But if it's just me and Lily, I don't bother with much. I pretty much will always shower, do my hair, and put on undereye concealer, though. Otherwise I feel too yucky :-)

i mean you some times feel like a bum but quite honestly i'm not about to get dolled up to do the laundry .. clean the dishes .. and change poopy diapers... but if i am lucky enough to get a shower in i do the whole thing get out blow dry makeup and out of my cleaning cloths.. it makes me feel good... i also have a part time job i work 5-9 during the week and some weekends it forces me to get myself together.

I have quite a few self-image issues, I always have so I make sure if I have to go to the store or something I shower and put on make-up. It just helps me feel better about myself. If the only place I have to go is for a school run I don't bother. I dont have the time to do it everyday.

I'd say probably 4out of 7days a week, my hair and makeup is done.

i always shower, put on clean clothes, mosturise and brush my hair but whats the point in puting make up on just to take it off again lol
