Mother In Laws

I just want to take the time to say that I love my Mother In Law (soon to be, really, getting married in August). I hear so many complaints from a lot of people about their MILs, and I am so lucky to have one that loves me and my children. Yes, MILs are annoying sometimes because they tell us what to do; but underneath that, they are great. :)

Im glad to hear some nice MIL stories, it seems most are not very positive. I have the nicest, sweetest and caring MIL, she lives 30 min away vs my mom who lives 3 hrs away so i see her much more often. Her and her husband, (my husbands father passed 15 yrs ago) have us over often for luch and stuff, this is her first grandchild so she is trilled. She never questions our parenting, in fact she always tells us what a wonderful job we are doing, being first time parents, that coming from a woman who has raised a couple means alot. Good luck to all you who have cruddy MILs and remember, its you and your husbands life with your children, not theirs. Im sure when they where raising theyr kids they would hate someone telling them what to do, id tell em to do unto others

i love my mother in law as well. she is such a great help and always there when we need her. she lives an 1hr 1/2 away but she takes the girls one weekend a month so she can spend time with them and see them grow up which helps us out alot! :)

I love mine, but she has the tendency to repeat the same thing OVER and OVER again. She is super sweet, but she thinks that if something isn't done the way she thinks it's supposed to be, then it isn't right. Luckily she lives over 24 hours away :) but I love getting to see her when we do, and she absolutely adores my son even though she has only been able to see him three times so far. My in laws have done a lot for us, and I love them for it and for being who they are :)

Mine is my next door neighbour (we live on the family farm and she is still 1 km up the road) and it suits us perfectly, on call when ever I need a question answered or if bub is having a bad day she can take him for half an hour while I get stuff done.

It's true there is a lot of anti-MIL out there, I guess in that position it's usually love or hate.
I count myself as one of the lucky ones - my MIL rocks. In fact I love all my partners family - even his step-dad and siblings are awesome. I feel very blessed to have such a great extended family on both sides. When I read the horror stories and family feuds on here it just reminds me of that :)

my mother in law is the sweetest woman alive!! She really listens, gives the best advice, and shows me unconditional love that exceeds that of my own mother. She is my number one person to go to. Thanks for sharing, I dont like hearing how many women cant stand their MILs either!

i have a MIL from hell....neither one of us like each other and when she started acting that way hubby and i hadnt even talked about getting married.. i want a MIL like my parents had!!

When my husband and I were dating his mother made it clear to me that she didn't like me and that I wasn't good enough for him.

Not mine either!! She's more of a monster in law!! Glad you have one that you like. I thought mine had 'learned' to like me, and she grew on me, but one day when we had a disagreement she said how much she couldn't stand me!!! So good luck!

I love mine as well. I do have moment where I don't but there are less with her than most people in my own family. I can talk with her about EVERYTHING :)

I love her most of the time, lol she's always there for us,helps us with money if we need it,gets me spa days, watches the twins every Sunday so we can have us time...ect... they live 3 mins away its awesome! But than there's those times when she can ruin my day, like my wedding day when she was to Bisey to help me and my hubby out with the kids, or she was so drunk she misplaced my marriage licence....gurr. lol

I had a wonderful mother-in-law, She was many years older than I and lived several states away. But she was always sweet and gracious and admired all of her grandchildren equally.

You are so lucky! good MIL's are like a dime a dozen out my way (Texas) LOL from what i hear i guess they dont like the thought of another woman taking their precious baby boy. However the day you get married is the day that is most common that is when problems start.

I love mine to she is my best friend. We do everything together. I am blessed to have a wonderful mother and mil.

I'm 28 and my MIL is almost 70 and thats a big gap for me to be like girlfriends with her. But she does let me do whatever i want with my house and doesnt barge in my way of taking care of children. I respect her. so we're all good :)

Not all of them are so great. I'm glad yours is though. Enjoy her and appreciate that you don't have one of the "bad" ones. Some of them are about a mile past annoying lol I have been lucky that both MIL's I've had have been fantastic. But I know of a few that are downright spiteful, mean, condescending, just plain miserable human beings. Be grateful you don't have one of "THOSE"! lol

My mother in law was great. I only wish that we could have spent more time together and she could have met her grandchildren. She passed away only after a few months of my husband and I dating.

I have been blessed with the best mother in law also. I don't know what I'd do without her. I actually get along better with her than my own mother most times!!

Michelle - posted on 05/27/2011

I have a great MIL. I have only met her once but we got along really well. It's a shame that she lives on the other side of the world. We do chat on the phone often though.

My MIL and I cordial with each other but really aren't really close at all. We just have never saw eye to eye on anything.

My MIL and I have grown on each other. She didn't like me at first. I think she questioned my motives or something. I don't know why. We were young, but she'd already known me for years so I don't know what the problem was. Maybe she just didn't want to let go of her baby. Ever since I gave her a granddaughter though, I can do no wrong. Haha. And BIL's wife doesn't want any so I'm number one DIL for life. WIN.

I love mine. She is like one of my girlfriends. She is loves the kids...and even bake me cookies and send them down to Florida from PA. I must confess I was craving them during my pregnancy. When she comes down we have a Drink while watching Classic movies.

Amber - posted on 05/26/2011

I love that mine lives 5 hours away :)
Haha...she's not that bad. But she's overbearing and I'm obstinate, so it really doesn't work out well. She's a lovely woman 95% of the time, but if we lived closer it would be a struggle.

I loved mine too...a little more than my own mother. She understood me better. I could talk to her about anything.
