we are moving to tennessee, which is a 12 hour drive from where i live now, and my 7 month old hates car rides with a passion. Screaming, puking, the whole bit. how do i keep him happy for 12 hours?

drive at night. be willing to stop often. Play soothing music (for us Enya and Jack Johnson work well). Get a battery operated sound (wave) machine.

If you can not travel at night then ita w/pp break up the trip into 2-3 hour shifts. My son HATED the car till about a year (when I switched to FF- a tad early in hind sight but it did help).

leave at night. leave at like 6 or 7 or even 8 or 9 if youre comfortable with it, take turns with your husband driving all night, he will sleep, and you will be there when he wakes up. :) this is how we travel the shorter distances. when we drove 36 hours we did all our driving at night, because after about 4 hours shes pissed and screaming, and gagging. its not fun, this is what we found worked for us.

You need to split the journey up into managable chunks. It is advised that you do not leave a baby in a car seat any longer than 3 hours without taking him out to stretch. My advice would be to try and travel around nap times as much as possible so that will reduce the travel sickness. Make sure the babies knees are lower than his stomach when he is in his chair this will help with the sickness. I would not try and attempt this in one day as it is unfair on the baby. I would drive for six hours one day and six the next split into two hour driving shifts. It can be done with a young baby as we drove to Germany for a holiday with a 9 month old we even took a camping stove to cook his dinner on.
