My 4 1/2 year old is not listening at all

My son just finished pre school next week and starts kindergarten in Sept. Up until the last few weeks he has been the best listener and always did what he was asked to do. The only problem I had with him was that after 2 years of being potty trained he started having major accidents all the time. When that corrected itself all of a sudden the misbehaving came into play. He refuses to clean up any of his toys all he wants to do is watch tv which I don't allow him to watch more then an hour a day sometimes an hour and a half if its a movie day. We do structured activities and he has free play time but after all this he wont listen. In stores I try and involve him in what we are shopping for but even that won't keep his interest very long. I also stay home with my 16 month old nephew who lives with us and I try to give my son special attention during my nephews nap time but my son usually trys to blow me off. I guess what I'm asking is how do I get the listening to come back time outs dont help at all he just sits and yells at me then trys to kick my foot when i put him in time out. If any body has any suggestions they would be greatly appricated thank you so much

It isnt that unusual at this age to have serious not listening problems from your child. Sometimes it more about praising them for listening and responding to you that will help and not about punishing them for not litening/responding. Someone said to me last week at an Aspurgers Seminar, that even if its not the desired response we need to hear it. My issue was i kept at my 51\2 yr old till he tantrumed or obeyed, I didnt even realise i was not LISTENING to him properly so he stopped listening 2 me. I might not want to hear the answer i get but at the very start he was giving a resonse i didnt want. Could that b some of wat mite b goin on 4 u?
