My 7 month old takes three 2 hour naps during the day, is this normal?

I have a lot of friends with babies younger than mine, who only take 2 naps during the day. One shorter one in the morning and one longer one in the afternoon.

My baby is 7 months old. I'm not complaining about anything because I am very blessed and she is a really really good baby!

She gets up at 10am for breakfast, I keep her up and play with her until 11:30 - this is when she starts getting irritable and I can tell she's tired. She then goes down for a nap (11:30ish) and sleeps great!

She gets up around 1:30pm, I give her a bottle and baby food - then let her play or play with her until 3:30ish when she again starts to get kind of sleepy and whiny. I put her down for a nap again then and she sleeps no problem until 5ish. (so that's two naps for the day so far). She then has dinner, a bottle and some type of baby food. My husband gets home at 5:30 and we again play with her / read her books or whatever until 6:30pm when she gets whiny and tired again. So we put her down for another nap (that makes 3 for the whole day). She gets up around 8-8:30 for her bottle before bedtime and then goes down for the night in between 9-9:30pm. She will then sleep 12+ hours until 10am - never waking up during the night.

I realized putting her to bed at 9ish is kind of late, but that's what I have to do with our schedule and my husband's work schedule right now.

My question is, Is this normal for her to sleep that much during the day?

This means she sleeps a total of 19+ hours a day total.

She gets a bottle every 3 1/2 hours, 4 times a day.

Should I just let her keep this schedule?

I don't know what I would do with her if she only took two naps because she gets so tired and fussy...

Any suggestions?

She's fine, and 9:30 is not too late to put her to bed. My son would sleep from 9pm -9am and 11am - 1pm and 3pm - 5pm. sleeping is how babies grow and develop. Their is nothing wrong with her. My daughter is 22months and only take 1 nap a day and just started sleeping through the night. All babies are different and you shouldn't compare a friends baby to yours either. She needs the sleep, enjoy in while it lasts. Good luck!!

I Love it my youngest is 2 and he sleeps alot to, other than that he doesn't seem to have any problems. I figured he got it from me, I could sleep for days if I had the chance.

this is normal. my youngest son was like this and slept during the night and it was fine. when they get fussy, that's the time to put them down for a nap. take advantage of that time now cause when they get older, you would wish they would take a nap when they don't want to....

have you asked her dr?i had this with my first daughter who is now in 7th grade and my dr said its ok as long as you get enough rest yourself.just make sure she gets enough fluids to go with foods so as no problems with bm.as long as it works for everyone. as she gets older she will start setting her own schedule of wake time yes you can still keep a nap time for her .best of luck !
