At 7mths your child only has an attention span of approx 10 minutes. He needs colour stimulation, fine motor and gross motor skills, lots of different textures, reading of books pointing out colours and different animals and people. Time outside on the grass on a rug/blanket. Minimal television stimulation. Old containers he can stack or bang together - make music shakers out of pasta and put in a plastic bottle so he can rattle them - simple and they love it.

Whenever my 7 month old is bored, we dance!  I put on some Raffi or he loves the music to the Blues Brothers, I crank it up, and we cant spend an hour just having fun.  I know it sounds lame but it makes my son happy and it wears him out.  We also spend a lot of time outside, weather permitting.   I let him explore the grass, shake a branch, smell a flower...new things are interesting!

I agree... magnets are dangerous. But the magnetic letters are fun. We have the Word Whammer by Leap Frog and my daugher sits on the floor and takes the letters on and off the fridge :)

Reading through your posts it looks like you have some great tips but just want to warn against magnets for a child that puts things in their mouth. Very dangerous.

I use to make up games for my baby. Her favorite was a simple shoe box and I would go off into another room and put something in it and bring it to her so she could open it and see what was in there. She loved exploring things this way. She would also put things in the box and want mommy to look inside.

Of course the exerciser was a fav toy but she would get bored with the toys on it. I had bought extra toys and swapped them out every week or so and it made the toy more exciting. It was also the toy I would leave at my mom's house so she only played with it for a few days a week.

When my son was a baby, I took some empty 20 oz plastic bottles & filled them about about 1/2 way with water. I added different color food coloring to each one & he loved to play with them. I glued the lids on to make sure he could not open them. This is also one way he learned his colors. He was an early talker & knew all his colors by 15 months. You can also put beans, rocks, sand, feathers or anything else you have around the house. It is cheap & it kept my some occupied.

i sit my 6 month old in his bumbo chair on the grass and give him the hose, he loves it. he also loves his walker and jolly jumper. and he loves to just sit and watch our dogs play. you could even give him more baths during the day if he loves the water.

Sounds like you may have an inquisitive mind on your hands... good luck! But from what I hear, these kinds of kids will play with anything because all they want to do is try to figure everything out. My daughter is 11 months now but when she was 7 months I would give her ANYTHING to play with, as long as it was clean and safe (and I would always supervise her in case she found some way for it to be unsafe that I didnt' think of). She loved my measuring spoons/cups, pots and pans, magnets, keys, colored blocks, spatulas, junk mail, bean bags, books, etc. She loved seeing how each thing felt, tasted (if it was ok to put in her mouth), and what sounds she could make with them. It was sometimes funny the things she enjoyed playing with. I'd also put on music and we'd sing and dance together. She loved that.

Do you have a Johnny Jumper, walker, or Jumperoo? Those are fun for kiddos and it helps make their legs strong. Toys that light up and that are easy to interact with are great. My daughter enjoyed a table from Leap Frog that she could stand at and anywhere she touched, there was something singing and lighting up. She still likes playing with it. Also, she has a farm set with a barn, tractor, and animals that moves and makes sounds when you push on different things. It was her favorite for a while. Hope that helps some :)

We bought my daughter a walker last week, she loves it. She's 7 1/2months and also loves emptying boxes, banging things together and flipping through books.

My 7 month old daughter loves her exersaucer, jolly jumper, & anything she can chew on.She also likes to see & feel new things, so i fill a big plastic bowl full of household items (stuff that's safe if she tries to put it in her mouth) and she sits on the floor pulling things out & playing.she also likes stuff that makes noise so we have a bunch of music stuff for her ( or even pots & a wooden spoon).hope this helps! have fun:) this is such a fun age.
