My 9 month old is still NOT crawling!

I know all babies are different and I probably have nothing to "worry" about but my 9 month old still isn't crawling.

She tries... rocks on her knees and whatnot - has been doing this for over a month, but she just won't move forward.

She gets around by rolling and scooting backwards and whatnot but just doesn't crawl.

She also doesn't pull herself up yet - she gets on her knees but not on her feet.

I have quite a few friends with babies who were crawling and pulling up by 7 months... and a couple whose babies started crawling at 5 months. It makes me kind frustrated... even though there's really no reason for it.

She also refuses to "walk" when we hold her hands. She loves her knees and won't move her feet. I feel as if she'll never learn - though I know that's not true.

Is there anything I can do to encourage her?

(we put toys in front of her/ try to show her how to crawl... even help her crawl across the room)

Should i be worried?

Hi Betsy, my name is Tammy. I was in the same boat with my son. I was so concerned that I talked with my doctor about it and he said it was nothing to worry about. Boy was he right. I started putting him in a walker when he was 9 1/2 months old and by 10 months he was crawling (for only two weeks) then he started walking at 10 1/2 months. It happened so fast and now I can barely keep up with him. It will happen on her terms:') Good luck.

my baby was the same and i think he was so scared. i tried to stay up and hold his favorite toys and let him feel safe and he did it after 8 to 9 times of tries. he started crawling when he was 9 months and 1 week and he started walking few steps the day he turned one

Enjoy the no crawling. My son didn't roll over till he was 6 mo. But he walked at 9 and a half mo. and i have been chasing him since. She will do it when she is ready.

Enjoy your baby, don't push her to grow up faster than what shes ready to do. The fact that she IS mobile means she is fine. There is nothing thats says a baby MUST do things at a certain age or a certain way.

No worries...All three of my kids never youngest who's 17 months..crawled after he learned to walk...I wouldn't worry so much, maybe he's going to be an early walker instead...My nephew didn't start crawling until he was 10 1/2 months...I think all kids are growing at different paces, and since NOT crawling doesnt prove any harm...I wouldn't worry...keep doing what your doing...everything sounds right. Hope this helps...
Good Luck

Girls tend to crawl and walk later then boys but talk sooner and some babies just skip traditional crawling altogether. My mother says that me and my sister didn't ever crawl and I didn't walk until 14 months. There is nothing to worry about. It is totally fine if she never crawls but if she isn't walking by like 15 months i think it is then you may want to talk to you doctor. I have had a few friends take a towel under the babies belly and help support their weight and try to move them along but I can't say how well that actually works. She is just going to go at her own pase. Don't worry you will be running around chasing her out of everything in no time and wishing for the days when she couldn't run around again.
