My baby has a cough, is it reflux related?

My baby (12 weeks today) since birth has had a cough which occurs at most a couple of times a day, but is definitely not whooping cough!! I have read that babies who have reflux can have a cough of some kind, is this correct? She is 100% happy and healthy and is growing strong, she has no signs of anything to be concerned about. I have tried her on anti reflux formula and formula thickeners which didn't agree with her digestive system but really has no signs of reflux other then maybe the odd spit up which looks yukkier then just regular spit up (curdled maybe?) but she doesn't cry for no reason or anything and her spit ups are quite a small amount. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this cough could be?

My little guy had the same thing happening when he was about that old. I asked my pediatrician who told me it was mucus around his vocal cords. Their little throats have a hard time swallowing that stuff down. His recommendation was to keep him slightly elevated (which also helps with reflux) as often as we could. Keeping him elevated helped a lot and eventually the cough went away.

Your description of the cough sounds a lot different though.. My lil girl just sounds like a rabbit sneezing about 4 times in a row from time to time but its definitely a cough.. I will make a note to ask MCHN on the 29th when i go next and I will try to remember to post back what she says :)

You are very welcome. To me it sounded almost like he was choking or gargling on his saliva. I initially thought his throat was swollen by the sounds he was making and of course went into semi panic mode. Elevating him helped a lot and I want to say that it was about a week or two before it went away completely.
And you are right...there are a million different things going on with our little ones and a million different answers.

Thanks Julie =)
I actually have had bubby elevated most of the time as she seems much more comfortable that way, I keep forgetting to bring it up with my MCHN so it's refreshing to see an answer which makes sense - keeping in mind it may not be the same reason as your bubby but is most likely. May I ask when it dies down or goes away? When she does it it sounds as if she's sneezing and coughing at the same time lol it's cute but sounds weird too.
