My baby HATES his carseat! Help!

The minute I set him down in it, he screams! I have a very expensive, nice, brand new car seat installed in our full-size SUV. He has lots of room, toys hanging off it, we double checked to make sure the straps aren't too tight for him. He is 10 weeks old, and has been in it practically every day since birth, and still he screams! I need help figuring this out- do you think he is getting car sick?

My son hated his car seat and the car for 3 months! It was aweful just trying to go to Wal-Mart and such. You are not alone...
We bought a Soothing Bear (Target), it has ocean sounds, heart sounds, and music. We named it Prozac Bear..haha. Now my son is 9 mths old and he still rides with it. Also for awhile I would put a blanket over the carrier. When he was sleepy I put the bear beside him and drapped the blanket over the handle and it saved both of us from going crazy. Good luck. I hope it gets better! Don't forget to stay clam. It's easy to get overwhelmed.

My dd was like that for awhile and it was awful. Thankfully she outgrew that problem at around 2 months or so. Have you tried a convertible carseat? Some go down to 10 pounds although I've heard that most won't fit them in height until they are at least 4 months old. The Learning Curve TrueFit does fit even newborns, but it's kind of expensive and hard to find. I found that if I made sure dd had a pretty full tummy (but not over full), a dry diaper, and a toy to look at it made a huge difference. Also, if she was drowsy but not over tired that helped -- I would wear her in the Ergo carrier awhile until she was nice and sleepy, then put her in and quickly get moving so she'd pass out.

It's totally normal. My sonw s like that too. He;s now 15 months and still hates his carseat although he is a lot better now he's facing forward. I agree with Jennifer, he won't die from crying and eventually he will calm down. I know it's not fun but there's realy very little you can do unless you have someone to ride in the backseat with him. That occasionally worked with my son. Good luck!

My four month old is the same way and does it in every car and every different carseat. Guess what the dr one has ever died from crying....she will either get over it or she will be a bit on the dramatic side. I have a mirror and toys and you name it we have it, and she still screams, but we are slowly screaming less....not by much but I notice.

Some kids just hate being restrained. He will probably grow out of it, just give it some more time.

Try putting a mirror behind him. Mine got bored just looking at the seat and the mirror helped a lot. Some kids do get car sick rear facing, but I don't think it happens often. If he keeps it up long, talk to your pedi. They also sometimes go through car hating phases, and those you just have to wait out.
