my baby is in nurtamigin and is now taking rice cereal in her bottle directed by the dr. It seems that she is struggling to poop. She only gets it at night but is it because her little tummy is getting use to food? Can I do anything to relieve her discomfort?

I agree with using the brown rice cereal. It contains fiber while the regular white rice cereal has almost none. I sometimes use baby glycerin suppositories when they are really plugged up. Those things work in a matter of minutes, sometimes seconds. Be sure to get the diaper on right away :)

i use multigrain formula and havent had a problem with it. He loves it and hasnt had constipation much, if he does i give him a little scrapped apple or apple sauce or a bit of prunes. I breastfeed so i can also eat prunes or more fiber. I hope this helps.

Hi, I'm not sure how old your baby is, but my daughter was diagnoised with severe anemia when she was 9 months old (she's now 3) and she had to be put on a liquid iron supplement which caused horrible constipation to the point that she had to have a stool softener daily in order to keep her "pooping" regularly. I can't remember the exact name but it's most commonly known as "Peg". You can buy it over the counter at any drug store. It just comes as a powder and you mix it with water. I would mention something to your doctor about it and see what they think.

It might not be a fix to your problem, but it's good to have for constipation as children get older, even for us adults. Hope your little one feels better soon! :)

My son had problems pooping too when he was on rice cereal, so I asked my doctor and she said rice cereal can cause constipation.  Try switching her to barley or oatmeal cereal, and she should be pooping again soon.  You can try rice cereal again in a few weeks when her digestive system is stronger.

It might take a few days for her body to get used to the rice cereal as it can be binding. Keep in mind if your baby is on nutramigen- milk/soy free formula to use either beechnut or Earth's Best rice cereal as Gerber has milk/soy biproducts in it. I found Earth's Best did not constipate as much, it's made with brown rice. Hope your little one is feeling better soon!
