My baby is not eating or sleeping well...what can I do?

Hi my name is Danielle, I'm 23 and a mother of 2, my girl who is turning 3 next month and my boy who is 6months old. Well we all went for a 50th wedding anniversary for my side of the family and when we came back my son hasn't been sleeping very well. He woke up about 3 or 4 times Sunday night, and was only able to sleep for about 3 hours total. I found that he was constipated so I gave him a warm bath first thing in the morning and used some lavendar scented bath salts to help soothe him. Then a few hours later I ended up giving him another bath with baking soda(It's said that the baking soda helps relax tense muscles in the rectum). I left him in there for about a half an hour. And an hour later still nothing so I called my husband and he bought some prune juice and suppositories. So we used 1 and within 5minutes, my son was able to do his business. Now my son has a bad cold with a sore throat and has a rash breaking out all over his face, and he still won't eat very much. He's eating at most 3ounces at a time, so I put on some baby vicks to see if it will help with his breathing. What else can I do to help him?

Get him to his pediatrician if he develops a fever, but I imagine you know this already. You may want to take him anyway to rule out a bacterial something versus viral (anitbiotics won't help this anyway). It sounds viral but .... In the mean time, push fluids and don't worry about his lack of appetite. It will come back and with a vengeance. Use that suction thing, if you can, to clear his nose, a cool mist vaporiser or humidifier, elevate the head of his crib/mattress, baby vicks if it doesn't bother his skin, warm steamy baths or showers with you. He's really going to want lots of snuggles now too.

Contact his doctor before administering any medication. You want to make sure you have the correct dose for his size/weight. Also, the cold meds are pretty worthless and highly discouraged anyway.

Hope this helps and that he feels better soon.
