She ia 6 months old She loved to eat solids but now is refusing to open her mouth. I think she is teething and got her immunization shots a few days ago. could this be the reason? she does drink her formula though

as long as she is drinking her formula, then that is fine. Give it a day or so and then try again. It could just be a phase that she is going through or it could be teeth or the shots, or a combination of all three.

My son initially did the same thing. He loved the baby food for a few weeks and then he wouldn't open his mouth and would turn his head away. I switched pediatricians and my new doctor felt he had acid reflux. After putting him on medication, he started eating again.

Although, I had to always feed him with distractions, usually a baby dvd like one of the Baby Einstein shows. Once my son was over a year, I no longer had to use the distraction. My son still suffers from acid reflux (generally most grow out of it around a year) because we've tried taking him off the medication and he stops eating well and becomes more "clingy" to me when usually he is very independent.

My son is now 20 months and eats really well :) lots of fruits and vegetables. Although, I do notice when he is teething he doesn't eat as well so that may also be a reason your baby isn't eating as well. I think it is also important to note about the immunization shots. She could be not be feeling well because of that as well.

I started a parenting web site, MOMMBY.com and I listed more tips I used to help my baby eat better. Please refer to: http://mommby.com/Food/Infants_Toddlers/... and http://mommby.com/Food/Infants_Toddlers/... for more information.

Good luck!

I'm going through the same thing and getting really upset and trying to force the solids down his poor throat, but he doesn't want to open his mouth and turns his head away.. I went to my Doctor and she said as long as he is getting his formula he's fine, and to give the solids a rest for couple days and try again, or give them cold solid food, they will eat it because it feels good for their teething, I tried cold fruit straight from the fridge and he ate it all!! Try that...
