My child won't stop hitting other children!

Help! My child won't stop hitting other children and I don't know how to get him to play nice. It seems that swatting his little hand kinda defeats the purpose, so what can I do?

I'm with Naomi on this one. Stay calm, and be consistent with discipline. Some kids will keep it up for ages, even with strong discipline, so don't expect immediate changes, but it will happen eventually.

Hi there my little girl is coming up to being 2 in novemeber and she has started to go through a phase of scratching, hitting, pulling hair and nipping if another child takes any toys from her. when she reacts i take the toys off of her do not let her play with anything and put her on the naughty step but carmly talk not shout, tell him what he has does and why he has been put there! leave him there for a 1 minute. if you shout or react back then they seem to get worse! speak firm! come back to him after 1 minute and make him apologise. he may then think twice about doing it again because he may notice that playing and being nice is alot more fun than having his toys being took from him and having to sit quietly on a naughty step. it works for me, maybe try that, hope it helps

my lil boy is 20months and has just started to push other children over out of the blue. i tell him off but he still goes and does it again. i think from now on im going to get him to sit by himself for a few minuites (kinda time out) and then get him to say sorry n give the child a hug/kiss.
