My four year old is a bed wetter.

I have a three year old and a 4 year old. My three year old has not wet his bed since he was 2 and 6 months, but my 4 year old does it every night. I have tried limiting his fluids and I have also tried waking him before we go to bed and making him go potty. I have asked his doctor and he said that my four year old may have a bladder maturity issue, but as long as he is awake and even during naps he mananges to hold it. I am at a loss.

This may or may not help you but it is very hard to deal with because I am 21 now and I myself did it until I was in the fourth grade. The doctor told my mom that when I was asleep that it didn't register in my brain that I had to go but when I went I woke to having a dream about water and going to the bathroom. My mom kept my in pull-ups and I actually just out grew it.

Please don't worry about this too much. My 4-yr. old does it, too and my 8 year old was a bed-wetter past 4, too. He outgrew it with time and patience and I am sure this guy will, too. I know it's frustrating- it is no fun changing those sheets! But, most likely nothing is wrong with the little guys, it just takes time and someone told me once that maybe it has something to do with the growth of the nerves that connect to the bladder- and at night they just don't have that strong impluse that wakes them up. Just keep up what you are doing and I bet with time he will stay dry. Best wishes to you and yours...
