My 5 week old neice WILL NOT sleep at night. All she does is scream all night long. We've tried holding her, rocking her, feeding, changing, a relaxing bath before bed, Gripe water, gas drops, tylenol, putting her in her bouncy/swing, plus tons more! Driving around worked with all the older kids, but with rising gas prices and crappy weather conditions we don't want to have to do that again. Everyone here is extremely sleep deprived, and frustrated. Please help!

She will sleep during the day, but only if she is held the whole time and it's never for very long. It's not that the other kids wake her up (4 yr old, 3 yr old, 20 month old, 1 yr old), she just seems to wake up screaming all on her own. We've tried swaddling but it doesn't seem to help at all. I went through a similar thing with my daughter when she was a newborn, but for her being held was enough to get her to sleep. And she never seems to eat much at a a time. She always seems hungry but won't eat more than a couple of ounces at a time..I'm sure that's part of the problem at night, but we need to find a way to get her to sleep better so we can sleep.

Have you discussed this with a doctor? She could have something wrong with her digestive system. She could have an allergy to what she is drinking. I know some babies who can be allergic to breastmilk. I would also ask the doctor about her noise, ears and throat areas. Just to make sure everything is normal.

When I had my fourth baby, I learned how different she really was! She will not sleep well if she is too warm. Her dad cannot sleep in a warm room. And she is the same way. I could not swaddle her. I could not cuddle with her with blankets. Even as a little baby, she slept so good in a cool room. I would think the room is too cold, but when I felt her skin, she was warm. So, if nothing medical is wrong, maybe do your best to keep her awake during the day, and change her environment where she sleeps.

My daughter went through a few nights like that and here she had an ear infection. I'd call her doctor for advice.

Are you sure she is on the right formula? My children all screamed like that until I got them on Alimentum. It is a hypoalergenic formula made by similac. There is also another one called Nutramagen made by enfamil. It is very expensive, but definately worth it. I had tried regular and soy formula and they all made my kids tummy's hurt. After just the first feeding on Alimentum they all calmed down and started sleeping. This may or may not help, but is worth a try.

yeah reflux is the first thing i thought.. feed at incline keep her up for a while after she feeds.. talk to doc about possibly changing formula

it may be reflux... especially since you say she is hungry but doesnt eat a whole lot... that may be because she is hungry, but when you lie her back to feed her, the acid comes back up and hurts her.... im not a doctor!! so i may be way off base, but as a mom, if i tried all of those things that yovue tried, that would be my next guess.
