Try a different brand.  I use Beechnut rice cereals and I always mixed it with something.  If not a scoop in his bottle, then in some food.

My baby wouldn't eat it at all either. I would just try mixed up fruits and veggies until he can eat regular cereal.

Ooh rice cereal tastes like nothing.  Both my boys hated it but loved maize cereal (corn in the US?)  Or try banana (warm up a few seconds in micro, then mash, later you could mix it with yoghurt) and mashed avocado is also fantastic, great nutritional value.  Add cottage cheese later for protein.

I see he's only 4 months. 4 months is a little too early for solids in my opinion. And rice cereal is pretty gross! I would wait another month and try again. But start him on something tastier like applesauce or avocados.

do you mix it up with breast milk? it tastes a bit sweeter and is a better consistancy than boiled water.

I wouldn't worry about it for a while. Guidelines suggest a baby have nothing but breastmilk or formula for the first 6 months. I have known many healthy babies that were just not interested in food till 6-8 months. No worries if your child is healthy.

Rice cereal is probably not the best thing anyway. It's empty calories, it tastes awful, and really has no nutritional value. Fruits and veggies are probably the best first foods. Mashed bananas was my daughter's favorite when she was first starting solids. Yogurt is also a really good starter food.
I never did understand the whole rice cereal thing, personally. Have you ever tasted it? It's nasty stuff. It tastes like cardboard and has the consistency of shredded wheat cereal that's been soaking in milk for three days. Go with the fruits and veggies. It'll start better eating habits, too! :)

try mixing it with a fruit before you switch to oatmeal. oatmeal is very hard to digest so i would advise you to wait to switch

My baby girl is not big on the plain cereal. I have bought her the mixed cereal that has fruit in it. I mix the plain cereal with her veggies. Some babies take awhile to learn how to eat solids. Also, if your son is less than 6 months, he just might now be ready for it. My son was not ready until he was 6 months and my oldest daughter was 4 months. I started my youngest a month ago when she was 5 months. Every baby is different. If he doesn't seem ready, wait a week or so and try again.

or it could be his tongue reflexes. when you introduce a babe to food he really doesnt know what to do with it. when a babe sucks his bottle or breast he/she sucks while pushing his tongue out. so when you give him food off of the spoon thats what he's doing, therefore spitting food out. once he gets the hang of eating off the spoon and pushing his tongue back to swallow youll have success feeding him. it just takes time, patience, and repetition.
