My 3 1/2 month old son just learned how to suck his thumb, and I need some advice. Should I just let him suck his thumb, or try to break him now?

A lot of moms are goin to tell you to break him now because it will make him buck tooth or something ,but kids that have pacifiers for too long can run the same risk, and in my personal opinion,(being a thumb sucker as a child myself) I don't see anything wrong with it. My 5yr old sucks her thumb and her teeth are fine,my teeth are fine.My mom and her mom were all thumb babys too. As a matter of fact, my 2nd daughter (5m old) is a thumb baby also. And no, I didn't steer either of my girls into doing it.

LOL now that I have laid out my family history,i should add that when your son gets older you should keep an eye on how his teeth are growing in because, while my family's teeth are fine ,the bucking of teeth is a possability. That is ,if you alow him to continue. Breaking him of it is also fine too, although I don't have any suggestions on how to go about it. I guess it just boils down to your own personal preference.

I broke myself once i got to be older, and i expect that my girls will too.

Its part of your baby discovering their own hands and feet as well as self soothing. I'd say let him :) Alternatively you could use a soother or try him on a blanket or cloth.
