Hi my son is 19mths. When I go grocery shopping he refuses to set in the buggy. Demands to be held. Its very difficult to carry him and shop and push the buggy all at the same time. I don't know what to do. Anyone have any ideas?

Kate what a good idea i am going to have to try that I was thinking very unsafe but when you told how you buckled him its a good idea my lil one loves to stand bc he is in process of walking so he will not sit whatsoever!

oh god i hope my lil one doesnt go through a phase of this. maybe you could try taking toys with you. tom has this driving toy which attaches to the pushchair and makes noises, bought it from ELC £15.

My son refuses to sit in the buggy, too. But l can get him to stand in it. OK, l know your thinking how dangerous it is, but not when he is strapped to the buggy. l make him stand at the deep end, closest to me, with the seat folded up. Then l use the straps that you would us if he was sitting and close it around his waist. That way he is close to me, l can even put my arn around him, he can see where we are going, and he's safe as he is strapped to the cart. lf he gets tired after awhile, he will just sit in the basket part of the buggy where he's totally safe, too.

At 19 months, you might try a back carrier. I carry my 3 year old sometimes in a Mei Tai carrier on my back and he loves it. Here's a link to both a Mei Tai in the back carry [] and a sling used in the hip carry (as Kelly suggested) []. Those were the first sites I found so you might so a search on your own to find something that might work better for you. I would highly recommend baby-wearing!

Do you have a baby sling? Many of the newer ones work well for toddlers--put the sling on as usual, but with the buckle on your shoulder or chest so that the "bag" falls at your hip. Place the baby in it so that his bum rests in the "bag" with his feet dangling out towards you. He will be in front of you, but off to one side, that will leave both hands free for shopping and pushing the cart.
