My son tells me no potty @ home

My 0ver 3 & a half year old son always tells me no potty whenever I ask him if he needs to go to the bathroom/potty @ home. Even though he has to go. I take him to the potty anyway, but when we go out I don't even need to ask, he will tell me or my husband that he has to go potty & goes willingly. Does anyone have this problem & will he tell me he has to go @ home eventually or will he just go? He used to tell us when he had to go @ home but lately has been only telling when we go out to the store or unfamiliar places, on the road, that he has to go potty. Should I just let nature take its course, hoping that he will just do it @ home w/o my asking or pushing him to go?

Try not asking and see if he will do it on his own. He may just really like the autonomy he has when you are all out. If it's been a long time, then maybe ask. But I think I would really just let HIM be in charge. It is his bodily function after all.

Almost all parents do go through this stage, he could be embarrassed by needing the bathroom, or he's trying to gain some independence, just be really encouraged when he does, but if there are other people around, try doing it in another room where he can't see them.good luck
