Nap routine difficulties with 12 month old?

Hello everyone,

I have a baby boy that's almost 12 months old. He sleeps wonderfully at night, generally 11-12 hours, but I'm having trouble getting him into a naptime routine.

Here's the issue: Most mornings, I take him to a fun center while I'm at the gym. He loves it there and plays really well. Sometimes he'll fall asleep there around 11:15 or so. I leave the gym around 11:30, and sometimes manage to get him home and transfer him to his crib without waking him up. This nap varies in length from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, but I can't make him stay in his crib for a certain amount of time, because the reason that he wakes up is that he's ready for lunch. Sometimes he doesn't fall asleep at the fun center at all, so after I get home, I give him lunch and put him down for his nap around 1:00.

Because of this inconsistency with the morning naps, I can't get any routine down with the afternoon naps, and I know that routine is essential for him to develop good sleep habits.

What should I do?.

Hi! I had a similar issue while taking my older son to school my little guy was falling asleep in the car and then that would throw off the afternoon nap. I know it may be hard but can you ask the caretakers at the gym to keep him up??? Something that helped me was giving my son a snack in the car to keep him awake. We have these snack containers that have a lid and a rubber top they can stick their hand in. It's great for the car cause the snack (usually cheerios) won't spill. Then when we get home we do lunch and lay down for a nap. (around noon) We got the containers at Target for $3. Hope this helps :)
