My 16 week old will sleep in his crib at night, but not for naps during the day. I end up having to hold him. I hate it that he screams and cries for so long when I do set him down for a nap. Besides letting him cry it out for a week or so, does anyone have any other suggestions? Does anyone else have a baby who will crib sleep at night but not during the day?

I had the same problem with my son. We had to stay with my in-laws while our house was being closed on, and they had a problem with hearing him cry at night. So I had to hold him when he slept. When we finally got moved in, he had an issue with sleeping without me holding him. For the first few days, I put him to sleep and laid him down, when he woke up I rubbed his belly or patted his back to let him know that I was still there. The next few days, I laid him down and sat in the rocking chair, so he could still see me. I guess after a little bit, him knowing that I was there comforted him and helped him sleep. Now I can just lay him down and he has no problem

One more thing, try swaddling, very tight. Don't let his arms get free, that always helped my son

You know, I know you hate giving in when he cries, but if you are consistant with what you are wanting him to do, in this case, nap in his crib, he will respect you for it. It will start a trend of what mommy says goes. There really isn't a magic trick to get him to do it, it takes a little "tough love" so to speak, I promise it will work.

Yes, my son doesn't have an issue sleeping in his crib at night, but during the day he does fuss when I put him in the crib. He loves when I hold him and he falls asleep in my arms, but he always wakes up when I put him down. I let him cry it out, and sometimes its only a minute of crying. I'm sure it will get better with time :) I would be open to any suggestions about this situation as well!
