my daughter went to the emergency room last night with nursemaid elbow and she seemed fine when we left. Now that it is the next day she doesn't want to move her elbow as though it hurts, however when she does move it she is not upset but if i try to touch it she freaks out. is this normal? has anyone dealt with this before? please help.

Thanks for the useful information. I am glad to know there are others that have gone thru the same thing.

My daughter was about two years old when I picked her up by the arm and, yep you guessed it, her elbow popped out of the socket. I felt so guilty because she was in so much pain. Of course, I did not know this was nursemaid elbow until we went to the E.R. After the doctor popped it back in he told me that it could happen again up until age five. My daughter was very careful with her arm for a few days after the injury.I imagine she was afraid it may happen again. Maybe that is what your daughter is thinking. Hope she is back to her normal self soon.

my daughter had that when she was about 2, it is basically a dislocation of the elbow that is corrected by a simple moving of the elbow back in place, usally the baby does it on their own. my daughter's hurt for a few days which is normal because it was a dislocation! give motrin or tylenol and you can ice but the more attention you draw it will drag on forver probably by the end of the week she will be all good!
