My now 2 year old was in bed with us for 1 1/2 years to get him to move on we first set up the crib near our bed.. after about a week we moved it to where he can't see us but he was still near by.. and a week later he was set up in his own room with no problems... I think that we were more worried about it then he was.

I believe that it is a security thing. I have two girls, four and six and for the longest my oldest would sleep with us, at aprox 3-4 we started letting her sleep on the couch and made our way to her room. Now she sleeps in her own room. Now my youngest is the different story. We put her in the room with my oldest because she said she wanted to be with her, which is no big deal. There is time that she will want me or my husband to lay in the bed with her til she falls asleep, and thats ok. Now there is times that she as fallen asleepin her room and thenby 3 in the morning she is waken us up to ask to get in our bed or just getting in the bed. I think that its just a security thing. if that helps you im glad. I would start laying them down near you and work you way to their bedroom.

i agree you should put the toddler bed next to your bed. my son is 19months and he is very clingy to me and always wanted to sleep with us. but once we put his toddler bed or we call it the big boy bed next to ours he now sleeps in it everynight.

I had this same problem with our first child. What finally worked was we put her toddler bed next to ours that way I could reach out to her or making soothing noises if she woke up then I moved it a little further from our bed til she was across the room after that we made out her own room being a really big deal and that she was so grown up and moved her bed to the new room. I would still sit with her in her room til she went back to sleep if she got up but that to became less frequent til eventually she slept through the night in her own room.

Hi Sara, I have a suggestion however since you have more than one child I'm not sure how helpful I'll be. When my daughter was almost 2 we decided to get her out of our bed. We put an air mattress on her floor and put her in her bed. My husband and I then spent 2 weeks sleepin on her floor. Every time I woke up and she was in bed with us I'd put her back in her bed and tell her that big girls sleep in their own beds. After 2 weeks we moved into the next room for a week and so on until we were back in our own bed. The reason for moving from room to room is that my husband snores loudly and we wanted her to get used to it being quieter than she was used to. It worked for us, hope it works for you too!!
