Hi all,
My son just turned one last week and he has been getting very upset at bathtime for the past few nights. He has always liked baths before and so this seems such a drastic change that I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I checked the water and it isn't too hot, he doesn't seem to have a diaper rash etc. so I'm just not sure what is going on? Overall, I have also noticed him having more tantrums lately when he isn't picked up, when we walk away, when he doesn't want to eat anymore etc. So I'm wondering if this is all part of the same "phase" he's going through? He's generally been such a happy baby (as long as you're not putting him to nap or sleep :) ) so this has me a bit flustered.

Thanks for any advice or feedback.
Sincerely,
Stephanie

Maybe he gets water in his ears and/or eyes and has figured out he doesn't like it? My kids went through this and grew out of it. Also some baby soaps will say no tears, when in fact they can slightly cause eye irritation. Get some different bath toys, too to make it more interesting for him. He may just get bored with it all.

As for the tub we experienced the similiar situation. We had to fill the tub and then put him in for a while and we got thru. Now he and his younger brother love the tub. They each had a few tubbies while they cried, but they got washed quickly and lived. The rest sounds like he uses the tantrums to get his way. Part of his way to communicate. The one with walking away probably he thinks you are leaving not realizing you'll be back. Play peek-a-boo more, leave for short times more often.

Good luck

What about having him in the shower with you? We also got a washtub, something similar to what you can get to put ice and drinks in and my daughter loved bathing in that.

Maybe switching up how he's bathing can help.

It can be a phase or he could just be at the age where he wants to see what he can and cant get away with. Try bath toys and activities.

My son is 3 and hates it when daddy gives him a bath. I have notice that when daddy gives him a bath water gets in his face when he is washing his hair. He hates it when we wash his hair and water gets on his face. He is all thow all right with him himself getting a cup full of watter and poring it down his face. But teething can be a huge part of what he is doing. Or he could just be going threw the seperation anxiatie, most kids do this at like 1, 1 1 /2.

Well, let's see..yes, definitely it could be teething...sometimes it can makes them miserable. I seemed to notice that just before they were ready for the next step in development, they were irritable. Kind oof like they were frustrated with themselves. It also could be that he has found that making a fuss gets you attention...they are smart like that! Just give him a lot of love, don't get in to the tantrums and keep the day moving. Just when you figure out this stage, then he will be in the next one.

Thanks so much, good to know. Do you think it's possible that his teething is contributing to this behavior? He has two teeth on the top that are very close to coming through and one that just popped through last week.
