Ok--- I have a 21 month old daughter who keeps me on my toes, Literally! my husband & I bought on of those oven locks that were supposed to work for most stoves, well it won't work on ours, go figure. so we have to be really listening to what our daughter is doing especially when the stove is on & when she may be in the kitchen. One afternoon I was making cupcakes & I was taking them out of the oven, my daughter came over to investigate & I told her to stay back because the oven was very hot. so she pointed at it and said "Mama HOT" I nodded & said "Yes VERY HOT stay back! So she backed up & went around me to grab the other set of potholders, she put them on and said, "Mama I help". What do I do?

maybe you should give her something to play with while you are using the oven. Such as a pot and wooden spoon and maybe through in some cherrios or some kid friendly food. That why she is doing something and is with you. Or just use tha gate idea. Or you could try and get her a play kitchen, you could put it in the kitchen away from the real stove, let her play with it while you are cooking. hope some of these ideas help you.

I bought a fairly good oven lock that has been awsome could you try another kind. I also put on the oven light & have taught my little man that when its on he stays back because its dangerous.

I use a portable gate ring that gives me room to work but keeps a barrier, I bought it used off ebay, when I did not have that I used the dining chairs to keep my 18 month old away. It is tough when they alway want to help! Now if I could only figure out a way to keep my 18 month old off the window sills!

Is there any way that you can put a gate up to keep her out of the kitchen? That is how I always taught my children. When I was cooking or baking, I put a gate up, so they couldn't come in. If I was doing something else, that I could keep a close eye on them, then I would take the gate down, so I could teach them the things to stay out of while the oven was cold.
