We have been having problems with our 8 year old when it comes to paying attention and listening. Not only at home but at school as well. I got a call from her teacher the 2nd week of school and the same thing is going on at school that is at home. Her teacher decided that she would start a points system at school and after 5 days of reaching her goal, she would get a reward that she chooses. So, we implemented the idea here at home too. When she gets 5 stars, she gets computer time. So far she has reached the goal MOST days. Do you think that this is a good way to reinforce good behavior or just a form of bribery? Suggestions and opinions are wanted. Thanks!!

Thank you for your reply. I have made the goal for points a little higher each week and she has had days where it wasn;t so easy to reach her goal. I have also called her doctor and shared my concerns and we are going from there.

you might as well try it..... my daughter was the same way, by the time she hit 9 we found out she was add.... meds have helped alot. i never wanted hr on them, but the longer you wait sometimes the worse it is for child! my girl is so far behind. maybe he/she is not doing it to be bribed.... maybe there is a reason! it is something to look into. just make sure you find a good dr. who isnt quick to just go to meds.

i was the same way, and i had add/ ld. sometimes there is just to much going on to stay focused... or maybe he doesnt get it because he learns diff. so he gets stressed and gives up! doing what works is never bad.... but maybe start making it so more points have to be earned. that way the streach gets longs, and there are less treats in the end!

:-)

good luck
