Potty Training

My son will be 3 years old on June 29th. I have been potty training him for about 2 or 3 weeks. I started by having him with no bottoms on, so he just wore a t-shirt. When he has no bottoms on, he goes right to the potty chair will sit and go. We are still working on his aim. He never has an accident this way.

When we leave the house, I put him in pull-ups just in case, but he always tells me, I take him to potty, and never has an accident. Do you think I am ready to go out with underwear on?

What concerns me about that is that when we are at home, he wears underwear and has accidents all the time. I try to remind him to go every hour, before/after nap and bedtime, before/after meals, and before/after leaving/coming home. I think by this point he should know when to go to the potty chair and go, so I want to have to remind him less.

I'm just tired of having to clean up the pee and poop messes when I know he knows he should go since he will do it if he is bottomless. Should I try maybe shorts and no underwear at home for a while?

He starts preschool in the fall, so I want to get this part down.

Any suggestions you can give me would be great!! Thanks!

He wears underwear all the time while we are home, besides nap and bed time. He doesn't always go to the potty. He will either pee or poop in his underwear, especially if I don't remind him soon enough. He does tell me sometimes, but it's not regular.
