potty training

I'm a single, first time mom and am in need of some cool ways of potty training a boy.

Every time I ask him to go potty or wear shorts or pullups, he says 'pamper'

Do I be patient and he will go when he is ready?

We had our son in pull ups for a year. After days of trying he just would not do it. I would back off and try again weeks later, but to no avail. We finally gave up and bought underwear for him. After wetting himself twice, he was ready to use the potty. Same thing with his #2's. After a year of total frustration, he is trained. I would say it took about 2 weeks to break him and now he's starting to go to the potty alone. He just turned 3 in January. Believe me, it was no thanks to the pull ups. The reason was since the diapers soak up the pee, he didn't recognize the signals. I would just be as patient and encouraging as you can.

How old is your son? He may be too young? I dont have a boy, but my mom-in-law tells me that she would place a cork in the toilet (maybe with a flag on it) and encourqage her son (my husband - who was a toddler at the time) to urinate on this and "sink the ship". Apparently it was VERY successful :)
