[deleted account] ( 5 moms have responded )

At what age did fellow moms started potty training their boys? Any tips?

Mine is a bit young but since he comes from a tall and large family I don't have any onther choice since he is already on the biggest size nappy available.

He is 2 years and almost 4 months.

Tried at 2 years 2 months, by putting him on the toilet or potty every 1/2 hour, he freaked out and developed a fear of toilets, where it was even difficult to take him with me when I needed to use the public washroom at a mall, etc. Bad times... I thought he seemed ready, but no.

I gave up on the idea, never mentioned it to him again until he was 33 months old, when I didn't really say much, just told him he was allowed to run around naked (no arguments there!) and we would work outside and clean the garage together. I also gave him lots and lots of juice. He had one time where he just peed when he felt like it, but it shocked him to have it dripping on his feet. I said, "Uh-oh, pee spill!", showed him the potty, and told him that if he felt like his penis was going to make a pee, he could run and sit on the potty and then there would be no spill. Then we mopped it up and kept drinking juice and playing/working in the garage. He started to pee, stopped and clenched, then ran to the potty and finished there. I was excited and he was excited, and we danced around and called Daddy on the telephone. :) That was pretty much that. I started treats a couple of days later when he really couldn't seem to get the hang of being potty trained when clothed. (he was fine when naked, but even with loose pants and no underwear, he got confused and thought he was wearing a diaper... but you can't stay home with naked toddler forever!) It was 2 treats for a pee (1 for peeing in the potty, 1 for having dry underwear), 4 treats for a poop (again, 2 for pooping and 2 for no skidmarks). m&ms were the treat. Later we cut down to 1 for pee, 2 for poop. I still do treats if he asks for them, and he's been trained for 5 months. (he had a small regression when we had our baby 2 months ago, so I don't want to stop yet)

my son is now 3 and still potty training. He started about 2 1/2 but lost interest and it is not encouraged to push them if they don't want. So I waited and now he wants to do it on his own. I read somewhere you can make an award jar with various toys and things so they can be rewarded after every time they go. I give my son a piece of candy after and congratulate him now he wants to go all the time!

Tried at 2 1/2 years, but he was resistant. Waited til almost 3 and he got it in 3 days. Also, his father would race him to the bathroom and it became a fun game for them to see who could pee the fastest!
