potty training at 1 or 2???

My mother swears she had us potty trained by 1 years old. She also claims my child should be pt at 1 or when she starts walking. I so disagree because by 1 years old kids don't talk and communicate their need to potty! Plus, 2 is the best age I have encountered. What do you think ladies??

Both my kids were just over 2. You should only potty train when u are ready to do it. I hated potty training and trying to teach them how to tie shoes. UGH I think those are the worst 2 jobs. ; ) Good Luck and sometimes God love them moms can be a pain in the neck and can make you feel insecure. Just go with your gut!

Do what's right for you, not your mom. This is your family. Just tell her that you are doing what is right for your family and leave it at that.

I tried 18 months and it still took until 3 with my first. With my second, we started at about 2.5 years and he's almost done and not yet 3. My biggest suggestion is to wait until your child makes it through a nap without wetting under normal conditions; drinking adequately and not ill.

Hope that helps and good luck.

I talk from personal experience I pt my 1st boy at a year and a half for 2 weeks and had to retrain him the next summer coz we went back to nappies in the winter. As for my 2nd boy I pt him after 2 and it took me only 3 days. so for my last child i'm going to start after 2 for sure.
