I'm so sorry Alex is having a hard time reading! I feel your pain, last year Rachel didn't like to read in first grade and she just started learning! It was scary and aggravating, being academically inclined myself. First off, rule out physiological things like, poor eye site and anxiety. The anxiety coming from her frustration. Go on a meditation for kids website see if calming music can help as a precursor. For me and Rachel what worked was reading funny stories or joke books it takes a lot of extra time due to the constant commentary, especially on Rachel's part. She is a talker! But, I did notice that the commentary and laughing made her get into what she read with more interest. Now, although she is still far from being interested in academics, I can see that she has started to like reading. I hope this helps. God bless.
