I had to wean my 5 month old baby girl from the pacifier. I was getting up 8 - 12 times a night to give it to her and I was about to lose my mind!! But now I am on day 5 and she is SO RESTLESS when I put her down to sleep without it. It takes her 20 minutes to settle down. Is this normal? Will this last long? I hate seeing her struggle to go to sleep! She does not like being rocked, feeding her a bottle does not work either.

Any help or ideas appreciated!

Twenty minutes is almost downright miraculous. :) Try a mobile or music box that plays for about 20 minutes, it may be that is what will help her.

I had one like that, and he needed his "B's"... that is, baby, bear, blanket, and box. The music helped drown out the other noises and allowed him to quiet himself. Interestingly, he needed the blanket up over his head, too, I think he felt more "swaddled" that way and that was peaceful.

all the sleep changes i have had to make with mine took about 2wks to really take place and there were little bumps on the way but sounds like your little one is making the adjustment really well!

it may be good she does not want the bottle to go to sleep or else you would just have to work that out one day too - no point in subbing one crutch for another...

i think as moms we just have to wait these things out

if she is getting to sleep at bedtime - eventually on her own that is great - it will improve - and if she is getting through the night w/out the pacifier then you are most of the way there!

same old bedtime routine? mine gets bath, bottle, a little quiet play and then a book and that all takes one hour - then into bed with his puppy with a musicbox in it which plays for a moment -

i think all these things being regular routine really help him (or his mind subconsciously) get to winding down for sleep and he goes down for bed very well almost all of the time

20 minutes to go to sleep is absolutely normal. In fact it is unusual for a baby that young to go to sleep in less than 15 to 20 minutes.

Its only been 5 days, so I would think 20 min is pretty good. Keep at it, dont change how you put her to sleep, you will only be substituting the pacifier for something else that you will have to wean her off later.

Give it time. You can expect it to take 2-3 weeks to stop missing her paci.
