Actually, pediatricians say you shouldn't give cereal in a bottle. It can cause choking and excessive weight gain and problems with their teeth. I started my daughter on cereal at the time of day she seemed the hungriest and most alert, which for her is evening. Remember it's just for practice until they are about a year old, anyway, so no stress. But I would suggest ditching the bottle for cereal.

I started mine on cereal when they started cutting their first tooth and were showing interest in what I was eating. So about 5 months? They suggest introducing cereals to them around 4 to 6 months. They, doctors, strongly discourage putting cereals into their bottles as it's a choking hazard; clumps I think. But for me, yuck to chunky beverages. At this age, she doesn't need more than breastmilk or formula. Food now is just for practice, to try stuff out, and to learn to use her tongue for something other than sucking.

I started giving them solids at lunch and then added dinner when just nursing wasn't enough. Follow your daughter's cues on this, she will let you know.

Finally, as a total side note, if you haven't started cleaning her mouth/teeth, it's time. Start with once a day, bedtime is a really good time, and increase to at least twice a day. They may only be place holder teeth, but still important.

I started my kids at 6 months and only spoon fed them. About a month later I introduced fruits and veggies. I never understood how to feed rice cereal from a bottle. I always thought it would be too thick and would not work. I must have made my cereal a little thicker for my kids because it would have never made it through the nipple hole.

i started my daughter on solids at about 3 months... she refuses to eat rice cereal... for the first month i fed her only dinner so that i could get her on a schedule of going to sleep right after dinner... now i am feeding her breakfast and dinner... she is 5 months.

Well with 3 of my kids (ages 13, 10 & 9) I started feeding them cereal at 4 months from a spoon. I would give it to them at their most alert time of day to begin with then after that I would give it to them 2x a day until we introduced the fruits and veggies at about 6 months. My other 2 kids (ages 11 & 3) I started them at 6 months for cereal because they were both born premature and that's when their pediatrician recommend that I started feeding cereal to them.
Do you feed her the cereal in hopes of her sleeping better at night?

Doctors in Canada recommend you star your children on rice cereal at 4 months. Again they recommend that you not put it in the bottle but give the child the food from a spoon. The recommendation here is to feed them a teaspoon to begin after they have eaten almost a full feeding. The doctors say to stop you child when you would burp them feed them the food and then continue feeding the milk/formula.
With both my children I did not do this I gave it to them before i fed them milk/formula and it seemed to work too and was easier.
