Rolling out of his 'big boy bed'

My son is 21 months and has never been much of a climber so I thought I would leave him in his cot for as long as possible but today (for the second time) he got his legs stuck through the rails and I could not get him out- I ended up greasing his legs to pull them out! Really upsetting for him and me! I have now taken the fromt rail off his cot but he moves a lot when he sleeps and has already nearly rolled out twice. Any other suggestions apart from buying a bed rail?

Truy rolling some blankets and pillows around the side of the bed, most children respond to this in their sleep and will roll the other way. I would opt for the big kids single bed with an added bought rail which will run around the edge. Maybe a safe measure could be to put another mattress on the floor in case of an accidental sleep slip???

I put our son in his big bed when he was 9 months as he kept climbing out the cot and as we where total broke at the time i got an old piece of wood and screwed it to the side of the bed and padded it with blankets, it worked like a charm and cost me nothing,

Could you buy a netted bed rail? That is what we used--it has a net instead of bars. We also used a "bed tent" which is basically a little tent that attaches to the bed frame. My son LOVED his. I'm sure he could have still fallen out, but I think feeling the "wall" even while asleep was enough to keep him near the middle of the bed.
