We just try to be pretty flexible with our routine. The only think I really try to stick to is bed time....everything else happens when it happens. My daughter is happy and we get things done when we need to.

We could never stick to a routine either, a) because our son will do things his way, thank you very much! and b) our lives didn't run to a particular schedule either. I know that many of my parenting friends were sticklers for same and apparently their routines saved their sanity and produced angelic babies who slept through the night from day dot - but I soon learned I could either attempt a routine and be an absolute mess when it failed, or I could go with the flow and just be as organised in other ways as possible. Worked well for me and I wanted our son to be flexible and not be the type of kid whose world came crashing down if things weren't done precisely to the minute - I certainly got that!!!

Routine, what routine. Mine changes from day to day. You do your best, but if you get your tasks accomplished, and you, your child and your hubby are not stressed by it. At the end of the day if you are still all content. You've won.

flylady.net really helps me! The routines are very simple and basic yet they keep you going and the e-mail reminders keep you on track and offer great encouragement.

we had this problem until we moved to a larger city a few month ago and joined a playgroup! all of us are SAH/WAHmoms and almost all the playgroups are at 9 or 9:30am and then afternoon ones at 3pm. this had helped us get up at the same time everyday and lunch and nap at the same time...basically the weekends are the only time we dont have a schedule these days!

Yeah I can't seem to make it happen either. My son likes to change it up every week or few days. I tend to agree with Laura. We manage to get stuff done and my son seems happy, so I try to just go with the flow. Although I have to admit when we have a bad day and he is cranky, I wonder am I doing something wrong? Should we be on a stricter routine?

If a routine doens't work for you, then don't sweat it. If you can get what you need to get done, then you're doing fine. I have two older dc...ages 17 & 16 and also a 3 month old. With my older two, I was on a routine...It was easy..I had very little outside activities, therefore very few variables to ruin my schedule. With my new little blessing...that isn't the case. I'm on a loose routine...and I mean loose. She is fine and so am I.

It can happen... Are you familiar with Flylady.net? It's a great source to help get you started. I've been a SAHM for 6 years now (children are 6, 4, and 1) and I feel like I finally get it. The biggest thing is to have a flexible routine since there's no way you can predict what those little darlings will throw at you, and when we're talking about boys we're talking stuff literally flying through the air!
