Moms, if you could screen potential friends as if you would a potential partner what qualities, interests, views, etc. would you like them to possess?

Qualities: Faithful, sense of humor, easy going, detail oriented, organized, energetic, honest, respectful of others.
Interests: exercising, shopping, hiking, vacationing, camping.
Views: As long as they respect my views, I can respect theirs.

I want to apologize if others feel I have disregarded their opinions on this thread, I do infact value the other mom's thoughts on the forum. I was hoping for a fun and hypothetical conversation of sorts but have come off as if hijacking the thread so to speak. I do apologize.

Hi Michelle, it's not that I want only my question answered but that I was wondering about a certain situation and and trying to keep the conversation on topic so to speak. Ofcourse everyone is welcome to their opinion after all I did post the question into a pubic forum. However, I don't think I posed the question properly hence why others are side stepping the actual question.

Why are you so concerned that people only answer your question and not have a discussion?
I think everyone in a way "screens" people though, if someone doesn't have the same interests you usually don't become friends.

The question was not answered you stated reasons for not screening potential friends when I asked for a screening of them for qualities, interests, views etc. while I do agree everyone's idea of a hypothetical situation is individualized I do believe one can still remain on topic and answer the question given.

Well, when you've been a parent for 16+ years, hypothetical includes the fact that you have your kids :) So my answer is perfectly valid. A hypothetical is different for everyone!

This isn't anything to do with children but oneself and as I said its hypothetical.

But dating is very different to a friend. If you are dating someone, it is a potential person who will have to be a significant figure LIVING in your child's life down the road. A friend is just a friend, someone who means something to YOU not your child.

If you start screening friends, you really are, in effect, making judgement before you get to know them.

A friend for yourself.
Let's keep this hypothetical.
It doesn't have to be based on current or past friendships. For example when dating I look for certain qualities/ views in my potential partner aka "screening". Like it'd be nice if he was frugal or liked horror movies. If you could do the same with potential friends what would those things be?
