Hello,
I have been watching my niece (sister's daughter) for almost a month now. My sister is going to medical school and she is already working and getting paid while still going to school, she told me she would pay me once she started making money, but its almost a month since she started working and i haven't had any help (money) from her, she is married and her husband makes good money, i don't know if i should ask her if she is going to pay me soon, i feed her daughter and i watch her every day mon-fri 7-5pm, she doesn't bring her lunch or extra clothes, i have 2 daughters under the age of 5, i wish she would be a little more considerate and thank me for the big help im being, should i just ask her about it?

Thats a personal choice. If she expects you to watch her child even when your not planning on sitting home waiting for her to drop of our niece, then yes it sounds more like a service. it is family and it would be easier if she offered but like i said if she's expecting it and you've got other things you wanna do but your going out of your way to stay home with the child or whatever, its a service.

I would work out what it is costing you to look after her for a week. Even if you don't charge the same amount as a daycare, you have the right to be compensated.
Maybe write up an invoice for what she owes you and get a comparison from a daycare center. Let her know that you love looking after her child but you can't do it for free and that if she wants to continue with arrangement you will have a contract drawn up.
