My 5 week old daughter will not sleep in her bassinett the only way she will sleep is on my chest. Every time I lay her down she wakes up screaming. This is not my first child but with my other two they slept on my chest but I am really trying not to start this habit with her. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break her of this...she has only started doing this the past three nights.

Kids are used to being in the womb so Swaddle her very tight in a blanket so you can lay her on her back idk how safe this is I dont want to lead you wrong but i swaddled my daughter and laid her propped up on her back in a boppy pillow. they will cry a little bit but if they are fed, clean diapered, no fever, no signs of constipation and all other things and only cry when you lay them they are wanting to be held so its ok to let them cry a little bit untill they get used to it.

I do pat her and she will go back to sleep until I stop patting her then she cries again. We have a sleeper (it may be the fisher price) that I put her in during the day while she naps and I have thought about trying that at night. My other kids slept with us until they were 2 and they slept on my chest for the first 6 months and I'm sure she won't be any different but I'm just trying not to do that. Thank you for responding I may try the sleeper that she naps in.

Hey, sorry to hear that your daughter is having a hard time sleeping. As far as breaking her of the habit, I think it might be pretty hard. My second daughter would only sleep on my chest for the better part of six months after she was born. She sleeps in her crib now some of the night and in bed with me some of the night. She is still not a great sleeper (she is 16 months now). Some people might suggest letting her cry it out, though I just couldn't do that with my daughter. She would scream and cry more than any of us could stand. I'm sure you've probably tried patting her while she is in her crib. Have you tried raising one end of her crib? Sometimes sleeping at an incline helps. Also, we got her a Fisher Price Rock N' Play sleeper that she would sometimes sleep in.
