Sleeping in a toddler bed............

My husband and I just replaced our son's crib with a toddler bed. Our son, Blake (2 yrs), seemed to like it very much. He crawled into it and didn't want to get out. My husband and I knew that it would be a different story when he actually needed to sleep in it! And it is!!! I've tried laying my head on his pillow next to him, reading a story (only while he's in the bed), getting the puppy to lay next to him, and just keeping him in his room (we have a gate up in his doorway). Nothing has worked up til this point. I really want to stick with trying the new bed. I don't want to break down and put him back in the crib, as this will only delay the process. Does anyone have any suggestions that I might try?

We recently put our 2 yr old in her big girl bed, too (two weeks ago). Keep redirecting him to bed. Does he take his naps in his new bed? He'll eventually get used to it. Right now they like exercising the freedom they have to get in and out, too. When our daughter climbs out of bed, we tell her to get back in bed and go to sleep. She has her pillow, teddy and blanket from the crib so everything isn't changed yet. I figure we'll get her new bedding when summer's over. Having something familiar, no matter how small, might make him more comfortable. You're doing exactly right, you'll just probably have to do it for a while longer than you wanted to - hang in there ;)
