Hi Moms out there. I just joined, and I don't even know how I ended up here but maybe just talking about things will help me feel better :)
I am 31 years old and I've been a stay at home mom for about 6 years. I have recently decided to go back to school. I've always dreamed about it but with my youngest starting kindergarten, I figured now is my time! I was so excited. And then my husband crushed my dreams. Not only did he tell me he didn't think I could do what I'm wanting to do (he says it was a joke, hurt my feelings, but apologized) but today he told me he thought I should try to find some office buildings to clean and instead of money going towards school, we could start a professional cleaning business. Um what? The crazy part....IVE NEVER CLEANED AN OFFICE BUILDING IN MY LIFE.
I have cried so much the past few days, and I honestly don't know that I can do this without his support.
I know some advice will be to talk to him. And I will. When I calm down. He's the least emotional person I've ever met.
I just don't know what to do.

Hi Alex

First thing: you are right, talk to him. If you feel you can go back to education, then go for it. Depending on how you organise it, you will get so much more for yourself, and it need not take any more time than cleaning. Also, men might appear to be non-emotional, but deep inside they are as daft and soft as we are. Which goes back to talking...

Hope this helps,

Claire

Oh, you precious dear. Don't let your dreams be dashed by your husband. I suspect your husband may be a little jealous of the opportunities you might have if you went back to school. He might even feel a little threatened by your increasing your education. When you've calmed down, reassure him that home life will not change, and this goal is one you have dreamed of. Being an office cleaner is not a goal.....it's just a job which is often thankless and back-breaking. Best of luck to you. Stick to your plan!
