Split lip from injury...?!

My daughter was running around with her older brother on the couch the other day and of course I was in the kitchen trying to get the dishes done and dinner ready... I kept on telling them to get down, then next thing I know, my daughter burst out crying with blood running from her mouth! I freaked and cleaned her up and noticed it was a split lip. She, according to the stories, fell off the couch and hit her mouth on the coffee table... So anyways, now it has been a day or so, and it is now a hard lump, with slight bruising under... What is that lump?! Should I be concerned of an infection? Or is it just a blood bubble, needing to heel? I am not sure, and have been putting carmex on it too...
I am thinking if not by next week it is healed, I will call... Any advice girls?

my daughter also split her lip pretty deep from falling over and banging her head on a chair, i ended up taking her straight to the hospital and getting it glued but it also had a little bubble and was a bit hard but now it is starting to soften and doesnt look so bubbly and that has taken a few months so any other parents that see this, this is normal :)

My son did that, too, on the picnic table in the yard, but it turned out to be nothing. Just needed to heal, we fed him lots of popsicles that day, to ease the pain. Infection is shown by redness around the site, and obviously any pus or clear fluids leaking from it. Usually after only a day or so, it DOES look worse, because it takes time for the bruise to fully develop, so that isn't your imagination.

So, if there's no redness around the lip (top or bottom?), and no pus, I wouldn't worry about it. Especially if you have to pay to go to the doc's, I don't know where you are.

my daughter was playing around on some lawn chairs and fell off and bit through her bottom lip!! my husband freaked and we rushed her in. there was nothing they could do really and by the time they wiped the blood off we realized it wasn't that bad. they did put her on antibiotics to prevent an infection since she did bite all the way through.

not to scare you but you might want to call the dr to make sure it's not infected.
